What drives the cost of security in Queensland.

There's no flat hourly rate that means anything across guarding, monitoring, CCTV and events. This page explains the actual cost drivers for each service so you can read a quote properly when you get one.

Tupper Security quotes every job after a free site visit. Site visits and written quotes are free across our service area. We don't publish flat hourly rates because rates vary by guard class, shift type, time of day, and site complexity — quoting a single number for everything would mean overcharging some clients to cover the cost of underquoting others.

Mobile patrols

Priced as a monthly rate based on:

  • Number of passes per night (1, 2, 4, 6+)
  • Pass type (drive-through versus full perimeter walk)
  • Time window (overnight only versus 24/7 cover)
  • Distance from our Silkstone depot (most Ipswich and corridor sites are at the standard rate)

The rate per pass scales down with frequency — construction sites running 4–6 passes a night cost less per pass than a single nightly check on a residential property. See mobile patrols →

CCTV installation

Quoted as a fixed price per project, driven by:

  • Camera count and type (fixed dome, bullet, PTZ, 4K)
  • Cabling complexity (run lengths, conduit, ceiling access, structured termination)
  • Recorder/NVR size and storage retention requirement
  • Remote access setup and user roles
  • Integration with alarms or access control if required

We quote the complete kit — equipment, labour, configuration, and warranty — as a single number. No hidden per-camera labour markup. See CCTV →

Alarm response

Two-part pricing:

  • Monthly base fee — keeps you on the dispatch list, dispatcher monitoring, no callouts included
  • Per-callout charge — billed only when an officer actually attends

Most clients run a low base fee with no callouts in a typical month. False alarm callouts are charged at the same rate as real ones, so a system audit to reduce false triggers usually pays for itself. See alarm response →

Access control

Two-part pricing:

  • Fixed install cost — controllers, readers, doors, cabling, configuration
  • Ongoing platform fee — per-door or per-credential, depending on the platform you choose (cloud-managed platforms have a small monthly fee; on-premise systems are install-only)

See access control →

Event security

Quoted per event. Drivers:

  • Guard count (scoped against attendees, alcohol service, venue layout)
  • Guard class (unarmed, crowd controller, RSA-aligned)
  • Shift length (most events run 6–10 hours including setup and stand-down)
  • Day of week and public holiday (industry award rates step up)
  • Venue requirements (badging, pre-event briefings, debrief)

Minimum shift lengths apply per industry standards. See event security →

Why we don't list flat rates

"$X/hr guards, all-inclusive" usually hides one of three things: penalty rates kick in after 6pm and on weekends and the published rate only applies to weekday daytime; minimum shift lengths inflate short jobs; or the rate's for unarmed daytime guards and you need crowd controllers or armed guards. We quote a fixed price for your specific shift mix.

Frequently asked

Hourly rates depend on guard class (unarmed, crowd controller, armed), shift length, time of day, and how many guards are running on the same site. Standard unarmed weekday daytime rates sit at the lower end of the Queensland range; weekend, public holiday, and overnight rates step up under the security industry award. We quote a fixed rate per shift type once we know your site.
CCTV cost is driven by camera count, camera type (fixed vs PTZ vs 4K), cabling complexity, recorder size, and remote access setup. A residential 4-camera install is at one end; a multi-building commercial system with 30+ cameras and integration to alarms is at the other. We quote a complete fixed price including equipment and installation — not a per-camera rate that hides labour.
Mobile patrols are usually priced as a monthly rate based on number of passes per night and patrol type (pass-through versus full perimeter walk). The rate scales down per pass when you commit to higher frequency.
Alarm response is a base monthly fee covering monitoring readiness plus a per-callout charge for actual responses. The base fee is small; the bulk of cost is the callouts you actually use.
No. Site visits and written quotes are free across our service area. We walk the property, hear what you're worried about, and tell you whether we're the right fit. If we're not, we'll point you to someone who is.
We don't push long lock-ins. Most ongoing services run on month-to-month terms after an initial setup period. Short-term work (event security, single-shift patrols, one-off installs) is one-off pricing. The exception is fixed-cost installations (CCTV, access control) where the kit and labour are paid upfront.
